Welcome to our monthly project updates. On this blog, you’ll find all Graig Fatha Wind Farm news.
August
Wow. What a month for Graig Fatha members as we see our second highest monthly generation EVER at 708MWh. This generation is way over the best-case scenario predicted value (P50) of 458MWh. This has saved over 150,000kg CO2 emissions. It can be hard to comprehend what CO2 savings mean so we’ve made some comparisons below:
Our Graig Fatha member’s monthly savings averaged at £103.69. This fantastic generation has also pushed the total electricity bill savings for Graig Fatha members to over half a million pounds! This past month’s performance has really shown the huge potential of wind power as an alternative to fossil fuels. You can read more about July’s generation here.
Further to feedback from some members, we have decided that future bill savings will be applied to members’ accounts after the 5th of each month. This is to make any tax reporting simpler. Some further context for you on the process for your bills savings:
- Typically the savings are applied to members’ accounts very quickly (i.e. within 30 minutes) after we have advised your supplier what those savings should be. However, occasionally this takes a bit longer if key people are on holiday.
- At the end of the month it usually takes a few days for the final metre readings to come through from the ‘data collector’. This is the company authorised to issue metre readings for the purposes of balancing and other functions of the grid. Sometimes we need to do some checks where we think there are discrepancies between the metre readings and what the wind turbine generation data system suggests. This can take a few days and is sometimes impacted by weekends or holidays.
We hope this helps clarify things for members for when they expect to see savings hit their energy accounts.
June and July
June was a ‘wind’erful month for wind, with an outstanding generation overtaking May’s with 401,546kWh. That’s over 85,000kg CO2 saved that month – the same as flying 16 people return to New Zealand! Graig Fatha co-owners received a total of £53,106 savings off their electricity bills. Unlike the severe heat waves which have been seen over the rest of southern Europe, the UK experienced some unseasonably windy weather in July, which was great news for Graig Fatha members.
May
May was a big month for Graig Fatha with a whopping £50,783 in total electricity savings, averaging at £56.11 per member!
This is the equivalent to planting 29,046 trees and has produced £27,654 for families in fuel poverty in just 31 days, thanks to the Welsh Government’s share of the turbine.
At the end of May, Graig Fatha’s total generation reached 6760 MWh, with a cumulative generation above the P90 estimate. For more information of Graig Fatha’s generation and what P50/P75/P90 means, check out our blog post here.
